Forms of Avalokiteshwor

Avalokitesvara Literally: avalokita Means [looking on], and isvara means [lord] so When We Combined these words Together 'The lord who looks in every direction'. [Tib. spyan-ras-gzigs (chan-gragi) ], Colour: white , Mudra(gesture) : namaskara [prayer] , Mantra: Om mani padme hum! , Avlokiteshwor's Symbols: mala[rosary] ,Vija mantra [seed Mantra]: Hri Padma [lotus] and Dhyani-Buddha: Amitabha

'Once upon a time, Amitabha (Picture on the left Click Image to See detail), the fourth Dhyani-Buddha and Buddha of Infinite Light, after giving himself up to earnest meditation, caused a white ray of light to issue from his right eye, which brought Avalokitesvara into existence'. Amitabha blessed him, whereupon the Bodhisattva brought forth the prayer: Om mani padme hum Thus Avalokitesvara is regarded as spiritual son of Dhyani-Buddha Amitabha.

One Buddhist legend presents Avalokitesvara as vowing to never rest until he had freed all sentient beings from samsara. Despite strenuous effort, he realized that still many unhappy beings were yet to be saved. After comprehending the great demand, he became overwhelmed and his head split into thousands of pieces. Fortunately, Amitava Buddha ( Read Dhyani Buddha Amitabha ) assembled him back together again. As the personification of power, the all-pitying one, he is the most popular divinity in the Mahayana (great vehicle) pantheon and is subject of much veneration in Nepal, Tibet and China.
Avalokitesvara is in reality a kind of pope 'existing eternally in the heavens as a vicar of one of the Buddhas of present age, but delegating his functions to a succession of earthly popes in whom he is perpetually incarnated and reincarnated, while at the same time preserving his personality in his own heaven.

Buddhist legend claims that Bodhisatwa Avalokiteshwor manifested in 108 forms on earth for saving humankind, and as a human Avalokiteshwor re-incarnates in every successive Dalai Lama. Thousand Arms Avlokiteshwor is another famous form (click left picture to see detail of the statue. ), he has thousand arms with thousand eyes in his each hand.
